So I can finally share some HUGE news with y’all!! These two crazy kiddos are getting MARRIED!! Yep, Josh popped the question and it was basically perfect.
Josh reached out to me a few weeks ago and keeping this secret has been so hard! We brainstormed some ideas but he was afraid that most of the ideas we came up with would be so out of their norm that Sarah would be suspicious. Luckily, Sarah’s sister suggested a double date to the Christmas tree lighting at The Battery and Sarah was none the wiser. I met Josh and his mom (who I basically love — Mrs. Blair, can we be besties?) the Sunday before the big night to find exactly where the tree would be, where he’d need to lead her, and how the night would flow. I swear I didn’t sleep well until Friday when it happened.
I brought my little sister and favorite assistant with me and she was a total lifesaver. I knew I wouldn’t be able to set up light stands for extra flashes if I needed them because there are so many people, it would be a safety issue AND the whole idea was NOT to draw attention to myself here, right? So light stands were a no go. So Maddi’s initial job was to hold my second flash when the moment was right. When we got to the center of The Battery, we realized there was plenty of light and I probably wouldn’t need a second light but the crowd was still pretty dense so I did need Maddi to keep other guests of The Battery from walking in between me and the couple.
In a further attempt to remain hidden, I was sure to wear darker colors that didn’t draw attention to me. My navy jacket, grey CC beanie, and jeans were a great low-key option until we got there and realized Mother Nature forgot it was nearly December and it was super warm so the jacket and beanie meant I was a sweaty mess but I had to tough it out. I mean, we were this close, I couldn’t risk ruining the surprise now, right?! There were just enough people that Sarah didn’t notice me but the crowd wasn’t so big that we struggled to get the shot. I’m so happy for these two!!
